During
our K-1 process we relied heavily on knowledge and information we received
through other couples experiences. Each couple will have a unique story
to share when they complete their K-1 journey.
You will find many legal web sites that would lead you to believe the
K-1 Visa process is difficult & complicated and to ensure success
you should hire them to complete your application. My PERSONAL
opinion is...
If you can read and follow instructions AND Neither of you has a criminal
record.
Then you don't need to spend the $900 to $2,500 that a lawyer will charge
you. I have not seen any evidence that using a lawyer will speed up the
process. There are MANY great web sites & a couple newsgroups that
you should reference when you have questions & keep in mind that these
people are NOT lawyers (and the ones that ARE lawyers, are NOT YOUR lawyer!),
just other couples that have already been through this experience &
want to share what they learned.

& INS forms for K-1/K-3 visa applications.
The downloadable forms from the INS are all completely valid and in some
cases can even be filled out online and then printed.
WARNING: As of July 2002 the filing fee for
an I-131 is $110. The forms have NOT been updated, if you read them you
will see they claim the fee is only $65... That's NOT correct!
